At Credit Union SA we understand the importance of protecting each individual's right to privacy, particularly that of our members. Credit Union SA is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). We are also bound by Division 3 of Part IIIA of the Privacy Act (which regulates the handling of credit information, credit eligibility information and related information by credit providers) and the Credit Reporting Privacy Code.
The Australian Privacy Principles (APP) are principles-based laws designed to safeguard the information privacy of individuals. They replace the National Privacy Principles which previously applied to certain private sector organisations (including financial institutions), and the Information Privacy Principles which previously applied to Commonwealth Government agencies. The core objective of the APP regime is to give appropriate protection to individuals when the Credit Union collects, holds, uses, discloses and seeks to correct their personal information.
The Australian Privacy Principles commence from 12 March 2014. This means personal information collected on or after 12 March 2014 will be subject to the APPs.
